September 19, 2016 by Rebecca Harper Leave a Comment

Returning to Exercise following Cosmetic Surgery – Undergoing plastic surgery is a huge life decision that puts your body through a lot.

One aspect that isn’t discussed massively is the time it takes to recover from having plastic surgery, and when you can start getting back into your normal routine.

If you are someone who enjoys exercise and works out regularly, then you will want to know when you can get back to your exercise routine as soon as possible. While it’s great that you do what to get back to getting yourself fit, you also need to be careful and look after your body properly.

The law world have seen claims like cosmetic surgery negligence rise massively in recent years, and it can often be down to people failing to follow aftercare instructions properly.

By rushing back into an exercise routine, and pushing your body before it’s ready, you can seriously injure yourself and compromise your surgery results.

So one of the most important aspects to your recovery is your ability to return to your workout routine in a manner that is safe and will not jeopardize your results.

You will find that you generally feel better physically and mentally when you are able to exercise, and when recovering from certain body contouring procedures, a customised workout regimen can actually really improve results.

However, this has to be done properly and customised to your individual needs. While everyone is different and every workout program has to be customised to fitness levels and overall health, some basic guidelines may apply to the average recovery.

The First Days After Surgery

This is the most important time for your recovery. You need to make sure you relax, sleep a lot, drink plenty, and definitely no NOT attempt to exercise. No matter what your circumstances, you should not be overly active for the first 48 hours following their surgery.

A Few Weeks After Surgery

After a week or so rest, you will be able to gradually increase your activity level as your start to feel your energy level coming back. Depending on the type of surgery you have undergone, it may take 1-2 weeks for you to return to normal energy levels throughout the day.

As your body heals and recovers from the stress of surgery, you will be able to build up your strength day to day. If you are a bit anxious to return to exercise, try and take part in some light cardio activities like going for a short walk around your local area, or walking on a very slow setting on a treadmill. Your could also try cycling slowly on an exercise bike.

The goal of this is to not elevate the heart rate too high while still experiencing the psychological effects of getting some exercise.

A Few Months After Surgery

As you return to their normal energy levels, you can start to make yourself a specific exercise based on the procedure you had and your previous fitness level.

Listen to your body. On days you feel good, get to the gym and work out! If you’re feeling tired and sore one day, then give yourself some rest.

After a few months, you should be able to get back to the levels of exercise pre-surgery, but don’t feel pressured to rush yourself! It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so ask your surgeon and listen to what your body is telling you.
