5 Home remedies for Dry Cough: It is not good to cough always, that too in office or in public places. People tend to look at you in a different manner.  There are 2 types of cough – one due to phlegm or mucous and another is dry cough. We will see the remedies for the dry cough now. Dry cough is caused mainly due to allergies, dry air, if you were in a dusty environment for a long time etc.

5 Home Remedies for Dry Cough

1. Gargle with Salt Water

The first and foremost is to gargle with salt water. Take a cup of hot water (not too hot, you should able to gargle using the water) and mix 1 tsp of salt. While gargling, you should feel that, the water touches your inner throat. But do not swallow the water in any case.  This gargling, removes the itchiness and irritation that occurs in the throat.

2. Turmeric

This method, I feel is most effective for me. Take 1 inch fresh ginger. Chop into fine pieces or even crush them nicely.  Take 2 cups of water and add the ginger and start boiling it. Add the 1 tsp jiggery to this. Let the water reduce to 1 cup. Strain the water and drink when hot.

4. Black pepper

Black pepper is one of the most useful spice to treat the cough. Most of the Indians know the medical use of black pepper, I suppose. Take 1 tsp of  freshly crushed black pepper and 1 tbsp honey and 3 cups water. Boil for 10 min. Slightly cool them down and drink it. Repeat this for 2 to 3 days.

5. Hot milk with turmeric and pepper

When you have dry cough your throat needs more water or some liquid. This hot milk with pepper and turmeric becomes the best cure for the dry cough.
Take 200 ml or 1 glasses of milk. To this add 1/5 tsp of turmeric and 1/2 tsp of freshly ground black pepper. Boil the boil and add 2 tbsp of honey. Drinking this milk every day at night keeps the dry cough at bay and gives sound sleep.
Try these remedies and let me know if the cough flew away…

Note: If the cough prolongs for more than a week then seek doctor advice.
